At Hello Kids Dentistry in Bothell, WA, we understand how scary it can be when your child knocks out a tooth. Whether it happens during sports, a fall, or playtime, quick and gentle care is key. Our team is here to provide expert treatment and support for knocked-out (avulsed) baby or permanent teeth—helping protect your child’s smile and comfort through every step.

What Is a Knocked-Out Tooth?

A knocked-out tooth, also known as a dental avulsion, occurs when a tooth is completely displaced from its socket due to trauma. In children, this can involve either a baby tooth or a permanent tooth, and the treatment approach differs depending on the type.

If your child knocks out a tooth, it’s important to act quickly and contact our office immediately. The faster we can see your child, the better the chances of saving the tooth or preventing further complications.

What to Do?

Here are the steps you can take before arriving at Hello Kids Dentistry:

If it’s a baby tooth:

  • Do NOT try to reinsert it.

  • Gently rinse your child’s mouth with water.

  • Apply a cold compress if there is swelling or bleeding.

  • Contact us right away for an evaluation.

If it’s a permanent tooth:

  • Find the tooth and hold it by the crown (not the root).

  • Gently rinse with water if dirty—do not scrub or remove any tissue.

  • Try to reinsert it into the socket if possible and have your child bite gently on a clean cloth.

  • If not, place the tooth in a container of milk or saliva.

  • Call our office immediately—time matters.

Immediate Care Matters

Prompt treatment can improve the chances of saving a permanent tooth and reduce pain, infection, or long-term issues. Even with baby teeth, an evaluation is important to assess for any injury to surrounding teeth, bone, or soft tissues.

At Hello Kids Dentistry, we’re equipped to handle dental emergencies with compassion and care—making your child feel safe and supported during a stressful time.
